Last month as a part of the “Principal for Almost a Day” program, I had the honor of spending (almost) a day shadowing Ericka Guynes, principal of Earl Boyles Elementary School in the David Douglas School District.
Evaluation results should be incorporated into all decisions related to staffing. But it also is critical to have a clear focus on helping teachers improve and to ensure that the students furthest behind are taught by teachers most able to help them catch up.
We can think differently about how we deliver traditional education services during these hours, days and weeks. We can better utilize technology during non-traditional “school hours,” not to mention caring parents and committed community members. There are models for all this, too.
