2018 TELL Survey Launches in February

Thursday, January 18, 2018

“We want to hear from you. As an educator, you are the most critical link to student success. Your feedback is essential to our ability to monitor and improve teaching and learning conditions.”

— Governor Kate Brown

Thursday, February 1st marks the launch of the 2018 TELL Oregon Survey inviting feedback on teaching and learning conditions from school based teachers and administrators. Supported by a wide array of partners including the Governor’s Office, Chief Education Office, Oregon Department of Education, Confederation of School Administrators, Oregon Education Association, Oregon School Boards Association and Chalkboard, the survey was first administered in 2014 and garnered over 19,000 responses.

The nationally developed survey is online and anonymous and should take educators about 20-30 minutes to complete. The survey will be available throughout the month of February and response rates are viewable at the 2018 TELL Oregon website. To ensure anonymity of all respondents, only schools that achieve the 50% or greater response rate and have a minimum of 5 respondents, will receive their school specific data later this Spring.

Chief Education Officer Lindsey Capps noted, “TELL Oregon provides a consistent means of understanding and improving teaching conditions that can result in increased student success, improved teacher motivation, and enhanced teacher retention.” Survey participants will be able to provide input on teaching conditions such as:

  • Time during the day for collaborative instructional planning
  • School and teacher leadership
  • Facilities and resources
  • Professional development
  • And other supports needed for educators to do their jobs well

The 2018 TELL Oregon website allows educators, schools, and districts to monitor participation rates for each school and district during the month of February and includes helpful resources for planning how to discuss and use the results when they become available this spring. In addition, the New Teacher Center will be hosting a toll-free Help Desk at 1-866-301-2454 extension 21 available 7:30 AM-4:30 PM Monday through Friday during the survey window.
