Statement: Response to Governor Kitzhaber's resignation

Friday, February 13, 2015 Sue Hildick

We are saddened by the Governor’s announcement of his resignation from office. Governor Kitzhaber has been a dedicated and staunch supporter of education in our state. As governor, he worked to advance policies and supports to improve our education system with a focus on equity, student achievement, teacher quality, and closing achievement gaps.

The governor has had many achievements throughout his tenure. He should be lauded for the creation of the Network for Quality Teaching and Learning—a permanent, state-funded network to support the growth and development of high-quality teachers in Oregon.

Governor Kitzhaber built a strong partnership with philanthropy, leveraging our shared commitment of building a stronger and better Oregon for all Oregonians.

As we transition to new leadership under Kate Brown, we look forward to working with her and her team to continue building state-funded supports for the educator workforce and ensuring the state keeps its promise to our children by delivering a world-class education system.

Sincerely,

Sue Hildick
President
