Educators to lead in Governor Brown’s newly appointed Council on Educator Advancement

Wednesday, March 30, 2016 Tonia Holowetzki

Governor Brown appoints a 16-member Council on Educator Advancement—consisting almost exclusively of educators—to help build a statewide system of supports for the teaching profession.

“Asking educators to lead the design of a bold new system is a historic step for Oregon,” says Sue Hildick, president of Chalkboard Project. “We want Oregon to be the best place in the country for teaching and learning, and we believe educators must lead the way.”

The council is charged with developing recommendations for a comprehensive and efficient system that elevates the teaching profession, advances teacher and school leadership, and ensures high-quality preparation and professional learning for all educators. Governor Brown established the council through executive order and expects it to put forth recommendations for legislative consideration by September 2016.

Chalkboard stands ready to support the council’s work, to strengthen and elevate the teaching profession, and ensure every Oregon classroom has a great teacher and every school has a great school leader.
